This is the sixth episode in a series of ten short interviews recorded at the Wikimedia Futures Lab in Frankfurt. In this episode, recorded on day two, we meet User:Chinmayee Mishra from Odia Wikimedians User Group and Wiki Women* Task Force.

Welcome to Wikipediapodden and this series of interviews from the Wikimedia Futures Lab in Frankfurt the last weekend of January 2026. My name is Jan Ainali. Here we will meet participants, panelists and organizers to give you an idea of what happened at the lab. The interviews took place over three days with the first one just before it started and the last just after the closing ceremony. So you will get to gauge where the attendees were at each point in time. This is the sixth interview out of 10 recorded on day two.
Hello, I am user Chinmayee Mishra and I'm from India. I am a part of the user group, Odian Wikimedians User Group. It's a small affiliate in one of the many languages in India and I'm also part of the newly formed Wiki Women* Task Force which is primarily focusing on the improvements and the advancements and the supports that we should offer or extend to the Wikimedians, those who are working in the field of gender gap and like bridging the knowledge gap and I am here at the first ever Wikimedia Futures Lab organized by the Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia Deutschland at Frankfurt, Germany. I came here with the vision that it would be definitely insightful and like very thought-provoking as the name itself suggests it's a lab so of course a lot of experiments are there with people, with thoughts, with trends and the changes of course. Following the resources that were already summarized and published before coming to this conference, I went through those resources and I kind of find those very relatable in terms of like the gist, the way they have been summarized and the way they have been implemented for the program here. It's already been two days here and one more day to go and in last two days I have gathered much insights in terms of like you know the ideal level generation or the design thinking then we have gone through like multiple phases of hypothesis generation around wild ideas, futuristic thoughts and what should be the next step in terms of like new product development or the technological enhancement in terms of user experience for both readers and the contributors and how we can invite like internal and external experts to our conversations, why it should not be not only a editing oriented thing anymore rather we should think for other strategies around the progress of the movement. I have been enjoying this conversation a lot for the last two days and for tomorrow I see a lot of actionable ideas coming to the front by the experts here, by the partners present here and of course by the support that we are receiving from both Wikimedia Deutschland and the Wikimedia Foundation and I'm really looking forward to the next steps while I'll go back to my base and yeah reutilize the ideas that I'm taking away from.
And we have had some external speakers and internal speakers talking about content consumers and contributors. Was there something in whatever they talked about that sort of like resonated with your experience from your communities as well?
Yes, I personally liked this hypothesis exercise the most so far because I find it very thoughtfully designed with a lot of care, a lot of concern, a lot of sincerity towards all the participants and the current scenario that we are facing. In terms of experts I would say I gathered a lot of insights around the statistical data that probably I was at least not familiar with before coming here. I knew that there are certain current trends, there are certain priorities in terms of the communities, in terms of the regions, but the actual data, I mean I'm an engineer by profession and in our industry we say that we believe in data. We do not go with like you know hypothesis or like just the promises without contracts. We believe in data. So I actually saw those statistics coming into the front in different lightning talks. Then there are like several reports being highlighted, the survey data being analyzed and the like you know the improvement, the impact is being mapped by the experts. So that's something I found very helpful and very realistic because when you already see the vision in front of you, you can find the realistic challenges and like you know find the actual solution to that. So I see that thing after coming here and that's very exciting to see.
