Author strings

Thank you for this report! On "it has been acknowledged by the Wikidata community by making a frequent use of the Author name string (P2093) property", I feel such numbers would be more meaningful after subtracting the large imports of academic papers, where it was chosen to not create millions of messy entities about authors from thin air but rather let that part to a second stage (greatly helped by ORCID and tools like d:Wikidata:SourceMD). A good point. Working with books is much messier – if a minor author with a non-unique name does not have a Libris authority post, there's a chance they'll never get reconciled :( --Alicia Fagerving (WMSE) (diskussion) 31 juli 2019 kl. 08.44 (CEST)Svara

Did you create entities about publishers after the mapping you mention in the text? With d:Wikidata:BEIC we create about one tenth of those we had data for but refrained from doing more. You probably had more and better data so it would be useful for us to see how it went. Nemo bis (diskussion) 30 juli 2019 kl. 21.09 (CEST)Svara

We did not create publishers on a mass scale, most of those represented in the top 500-ish sample were already on Wikidata, and some were created manually as needed. Still, this is a big gap that we will have to work with when handling larger amounts of data. An expected difficulty is small differences between what a publisher is called in the library catalog and on Wikidata/Wikipedia, that could lead to creating duplicates. We would also have to think about how to handle publishers that have changed the name over the years... --Alicia Fagerving (WMSE) (diskussion) 31 juli 2019 kl. 08.41 (CEST)Svara

Collaboration on target subject import and curation - Citizen Science / medborgarforskning

This work with Libris is great to find especially as it aligns with the Linked Open Data (LOD) needs for medborgarforskning. I'm working on at GU and we're looking at Wikidata as access to the library's content, broader WikiCite work, and identifiers for items related to medborgarforskning / citizen science in LOD. I've extended some work on the topic as seen in [Scholia], but would like to incorporate more content from the National Library on the subject of citizen science / medborgarforknign and other sources. A focused import on this medborgarforskning / citizen science may be a way to highlight the value of the Linked Open Data and Library participation as stated in goals 3 and 4. If this is of interest please reach out and let us know if this sounds like something worth discussing. Wolfgang8741 (diskussion) 25 november 2019 kl. 16.57 (CET)Svara
