Annual Report 2025/Story: The Content Partnerships Helpdesk gains new momentum
In this story, we focus on how the work of the Helpdesk, within the framework of the thematic Content Partnerships Hub, gained new momentum during the year, and what it may lead to in the future.

For several years, we have operated a Helpdesk within the framework of the thematic Content Partnerships Hub. Volunteers and affiliates within the Wikimedia movement can turn to the Helpdesk if they need support in carrying out a content partnership. To date, we have received just under forty requests, and the projects we have carried out or supported have resulted in more than 20 000 uploaded files and nearly 100 000 Wikidata items created or improved.
However, due to the uncertain funding and future of the Hub project, several parts of the Helpdesk have been running at a low level for some time. In 2025, we decided to inject new energy into the project. Luis Carrasco from Chile joined as Secretary of the Helpdesk, with responsibility, among other things, for supporting and advancing the work of the so-called Expert Committee in guiding the practical work of the Helpdesk. The Expert Committee is a group of people from around the world with experience of international GLAM work, bringing different backgrounds and areas of expertise, but sharing a strong interest in the Helpdesk as a support function.
Luis has also made major efforts to update the portal and ensure more active communication. Thanks to this work, it is now possible to follow directly on the Helpdesk portal page on Meta how the various requests submitted to the Helpdesk are progressing.
In addition, substantial work was carried out during the spring to select suitable new members of the Expert Committee, which is now at full strength and working at full speed.
Looking ahead, extensive work will begin on establishing working groups, something that has been prepared over several years but is now set to gather momentum. These working groups will both ensure that more people can carry out the practical tasks needed to implement or support projects, and address more wide-ranging problems or challenges that the Helpdesk and the Expert Committee identify through incoming requests. An example of the former might be searching for and compiling existing knowledge needed to carry out a project, or providing practical support with ideas and suggestions for effective uploads. An example of the latter might be producing the necessary materials to help Wikimedia affiliates easily understand how to run Wiki Loves competitions with support from Wikidata.
Through the practical support of the Helpdesk and the work expected to take place within the working groups, more and more parts of the movement will also gain practical experience of running projects with content partners. In this way, the Helpdesk function is gradually contributing to capacity building for GLAM collaborations across the broader Wikimedia movement.
