Training sessions

Please feel free to adjust the studyset-up

Suggestion: 4 hour + 4 hour per group. The 4 hour session should also contain a 30 minutes break with "fika". This time is also time for discussions among the students. The program should be done in that way that Caroline and Paulina comes two times to a place with one week or some weeks in between if possible.

The first 4 hoursession

Each "teachinggroup" will have a maximum of 10-15 persons.

5-10 minutes to just welcome the group, waiting for late people etc. Presentation of Paulina and Caroline- 5 min. What are the group's expectations on the session, what do they want to learn from it? Are there any specific things they ought to learn? 10 min The expectations of the group are drawn on the blackboard (if there is one) or at another visible place.

Presentation of Wikipedia, Wikimedia, Wikimedia Sweden and Luganda Wikipedia. What is visible at the main page of Wikipedia? How do I navigate? The 5 pillars of Wikipedia+ groupdiscussions on these (on questions Caroline and Paulina have prepared) Total: 30-45 min

Time for the creation of Wikipediaaccounts in the group. We would rather see that the group has prepared accounts at home, but if that isn't the case we must help them. This is perhaps especially for the farmers in Mbazzi. Time depends. Create a userpage per groupmember and a talkpage through sending a welcome-greeting to eachother. 10 min

Briefing one's userpage, sandbox and the editfeature. 10 min

Break/Tea time 30 min

Lecture in WWF and sustainable development. What examples in sustainable development are there in Uganda? (More of a discussion with the group) 20 min

What are important subjects within sustainable develoment according to the group? How should Uganda (or a member's village for example) be taken forward in a sustainable way? Groupdiscussions with three in each group. Then a presentation in the presence of the group as a whole. 20 min

Teach the group in how they can find articles on sustainable development in english Wikipedia they wish to translate to Luganda. Although we will have a list of random articles which need to be expanded, it's always easier to be given an article than looking for one yourself. In this way we also minimize the risk of "being stuck" and we save time. Teach them the things that characterize wellwritten articles in Wikipedia. 30 min

Did the group's expectations meet the expected ones? In the end of the session there will be time for reverberation and constructive criticism. 15 min

Time used: 3 h. Time of benefit: 30 min.

The last 4 hoursession

During this session the main focus will be put on editing and translating articles.

We start off with a question time. What's been easy/not easy? What do the group remember since the last session? 15 min. If there are no questions we (Caroline and Paulina) start discussing with them.

What are the group's expectations on this session? 5-10 min. Our goal as Wikipediateachers with this session is that the translated articles of the group will be published before the end of the session. Therefore it's important for the group not to write as long articles as possible, but articles of a high quality. This is only the beginning of the new "Wikipediaculture" in Uganda!

Start working with the articles. What should the group have in mind when they translate? 10 min

Translating and editing their articles. Also a lecture about Wikimedia Commons and how you put up pictures in an article, if they wish to do so. 1 h 20 min

Break/Tea time 30 min

We'll embrace the spirit of discussion (which they hopefully started during the break) and continue to discuss how this Wikipediaproject will be pursued. Questions which need to be answered:

  • Whom will make sure that more articles are written and updated in Luganda Wikipedia?
  • Our project needs to be spread in the whole of Uganda, more people need to get involved- whom make sure of this and how?
  • What can be done during the following month and six months?

20-25 min

Finale evaluation of the two sessions (scripturally. 15 min

Last but not least there will be a Wikipedia- and wikiknowledge quiz. 10 min

Time used: 3 h, ca 20 min. Time of benefit: 10 min
